TOYOTA GR COROLLA

G16E-GTS Engine

The Toyota GR Corolla's G16E-GTS engine is impressively powerful and fuel-efficient thanks to a combination of direct fuel injection, a high-efficiency intake system, and a dual overhead camshaft configuration. The electronic throttle control system ensures quick response and precise modulation of power delivery, while the variable valve timing system allows for seamless transitions between low-end torque and high-RPM power. The engine's high-performance exhaust manifold and free-flowing exhaust system enhance both power delivery and efficiency.

SpeedLab Performance Dyno

Our GRC was making a consistent 315/317ft-lbs on the dyno on E40 at 30 psi tapering to 23 (See pictures attached for boost levels), however, we were fighting the ongoing Intake air temperature battle as everyone else, sometimes seeing IAT's as high as 42+ degrees Celsius at the end of the pull on our mainline dyno with a 350mm fan blowing at full tilt!

Upon installing the intake, we noticed significant IAT drops across the board, specially during a ramp run in our dyno, we actually saw 10+ degree Celsius IAT drops at the end of a pull, seeing only 28-29 degrees with the intake added.

The trapdoor design certainly does not help the GRC intake box, any any well designed intake will remedy this problem (BP intake being one of them). As far as the calibration side of things go, the intake slightly offsets the fuel trims, so a stock car will run a bit leaner, which is okay as the car runs very rich from the factory once in boost, but a tuned car WILL need to be revisited to make sure the car does not run excessively lean.

With the intake alone on E40, and adjusting our tune to get the trims where they need to be, we picked up an average of 15 hp and 15 ft-lbs essentially everywhere in the powerband above 4500 RPM and still picked up power and torque everywhere below that, well worth the money.

We then proceeded to add the Forge performance FMIC kit, good kit, utilizing their 2" silicone hoses which replace the smaller ID OEM ones, we managed to drop another 4-5 degrees of IAT's by the end of the run, ending up at 25-27 degrees Celsius after each run, and being able to do pulls pretty much back to back without significantly heat soaking the intercooler, hence keeping the IAT's low overall, and dropping the knock retard that the ecu does when picking up the slightest knock event.

In short, we made an average of 330hp/330tq with an intake and a FMIC, Stock downpipe and just a cat back exhaust, really not needing the FMIC for the power increase at this point, but it certainly helps the poor design of the factory airbox and smaller IC combo.

Our 91/93 oct and E40 tune, along with our Cat back exhaust is currently on the website for sale, with our downpipe coming in the following week, and lots of other exciting things happening soon, one of which being our PPG gearset that is arriving next week, and our solution to a anti money-shift lockout shifter to get this pup down the drag strip
