Beehive

Shaped like a beehive, which allows for a smaller retainer to be used, reducing the valvetrain mass. Pac Racing Springs

EJ20/EJ25 Ovate wire Beehive Springs

Ovate Wire

Ovate wire has a non-circular cross section which reduces max wire stress compared to round wire. Its shape also allows for more spacing between coils, enabling greater valve lift before coil bind occurs.

Single Parallel

Single parallel have a cylindrical shape with a constant outside diameter. They can be packaged together to create dual or triple design.

Dual

The smaller spring inside the larger outer spring manages spring surge and dissipates vibrations. An interference fit damps these vibrations, preventing damage to the valvetrain.

Designing the overall valve spring package is a balancing act of several factors:

  • Operating RPM
  • Mass of the valvetrain
  • Mild/Extreme boost or naturally aspirated
  • What space the OEM cylinder head has provided to work with.

Pac Racing Spring

Kelford Cams has partnered with PAC Racing to provide valve springs made to our specifications. We use only the highest quality materials and techniques for maximum reliability in performance engines. Our cam lobe profiles are designed with our valve spring package to ensure adequate spring force for controlling cam profile at maximum RPM. We also analyze valvetrain harmonics to prevent spring surge within the engine’s operating range. We recommend using a Kelford Cams KVS  spec range with our camshafts.
